About Us Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Balod, located in Chhattisgarh, is a pioneering agricultural extension center under the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR). It plays a crucial role in bridging the gap between research institutions and farmers by disseminating innovative agricultural practices and technologies.
Our History Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Balod, was established under the aegis of the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) as part of the nationwide initiative to strengthen agricultural extension services. The foundation of the KVK reflects the vision of empowering the rural farming community through scientific knowledge, innovative practices, and skill development.
Our Mission The mission of KVK Balod is to empower the farming community of Balod district by fostering sustainable agricultural practices, enhancing productivity, and improving livelihoods through scientific knowledge, skill development, and innovation.
Our Vision 1. On-farm testing to assess the location specificity of agricultural technologies under various farming systems. 2. Frontline demonstrations to establish production potential of technologies on the farmers’ fields. 3. Capacity development of farmers and extension personnel to update their knowledge and skills on modern agricultural technologies. 4. To work as Knowledge and Resource Centre of agricultural technologies for supporting initiatives of public, private and voluntary sector in improving the agricultural economy of the district. 5. Provide farm advisories using ICT and other media means on varied subjects of interest to farmers
Dr. Khoobi Ram Sahu Senior Scientist and Head (PC) Balod is one of the most important potential district of Chhattisgarh in terms of area, production and productivity of different crops. Balod comes under Chhattisgarh plane region of the state. Total cultivated land comes under Balod district is 258559 ha. Nearly 28.94 % area comes under irrigated condition during Rabi season. During Kharif season rice mono crop is dominant. Average rainfall of the district is 1142 mm per annum. In Balod district there is a low productivity of various crops with cropping intensity 141%. After seen the scenario KVK has main focused on small and medium farmers to increase their production and minimize the cost of cultivation. For the farmers of district Balod Krishi Vigyan Kendra research as OFT/FLDs and transfer technologies by training and demonstration on horticultural crops, pulses, oilseeds, Dairy, Poultry, Food processing, Agricultural implements, Insect pest and disease management. KVK Balod emphasis on quality sees production of Rice and oilseed crops and quality planting material for production of horticultural crops. To improve socio economic status of landless farmers KVK emphasis on different projects like Dall mill, Kadaknath poultry farming, mushroom cultivation, plantation of fruits and bamboo plants, Natural farming, ITKs etc .
