Department of Agricultural Economics

About Us The Department of Agricultural Economics teaches students, how to use economic and decision making principles and develop their leadership and communication skills to prepare them for employment and to continue life-long learning. Our department conduct applied research programs to analyze farm and public policy issues and respond to high-priority societal needs. We collaborate with scientists and educators in other disciplines to incorporate economic analysis into multi-disciplinary programs. At present, our department offers M.Sc. (Ag.) in Agricultural Economics and Ph.D. (Ag.) in Agricultural Economics.
Our History The Department of Agricultural Economics and Farm Management was established in 1979 with four faculty members was earlier affiliated to Jawaharlal Nehru Agriculture University, Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh. Later, after the formal establishment of the Indira Gandhi Agricultural University, Raipur in 1987, the department started functioning under newly formed university. Later on, in 1989-90, department is renamed as Department of Agriculture and Natural Resource Economics (DANRE). Again in the year 2006, department is renamed as Department of Agricultural Economics.
Our Mission
Our Vision The Department of Agricultural Economics aspires to contribute for policy making in various dimensions of Agricultural Research such as marketing, finance, farm management and production economics, Agri-business management, food security, tenancy, land reforms and other important agrarian issues plaguing the State of Chhattisgarh and the region to enhance the farmers income, livelihood and Agri-business opportunities. Accordingly, the department envisions to the establishment of the following centers to fulfill the above objectives • The department shall develop the synergy with the state Government not for only to suggest the policy for welfare programmes to agriculturists but also make the synergy for state welfare programmes especially for agriculturalists. • The department has feel to run to parallel scheme on cost of cultivation as ran by central Government because most the crops still pending for not announcing the MSP. The department shall make efforts to start the state cost of cultivation scheme. • The most burning issues of natural & environmental science not only global level but the state has also perceived the to start the subject of natural & environmental science.
