World Food Day-2024
was celebrated on 16th October 2024 at
College of Food
Technology, IGKV Raipur Chhattisgarh. On this occasion all the faculties, staff and students of College of Food Technology participated in the program. The chief guest of the program was Dr M.P. Thakur, Nodal officer ICAR - IGKV Raipur. Er Durgesh Ganjeer, an entrepreneur of food industry & Dr M. P. Tripathi, Head, Soil Water Engineering Department, SVCAET&RS, IGKV, Raipur have joined the event as special guests.
The program stated with welcome of the guests by Dean, Dr. A.K. Dave. In his welcome speech, Dr. Dave briefed about the program and driven the attention of all students and other members towards the reasons of wastage of food and other types of losses during production and post harvest including storage and as food engineers and technologists we have to minimise these losses. Dr. M. P. Tripathi conveyed the message that how this undergraduate program of food technology is important and its future is very bright. He stressed on the fact that by creating efficient, inclusive resilient and sustainable agri-food systems, we can mitigate and adapt to climate change, increase biodiversity and restore ecosystems. After the speech of Dr. Tripathi, Mr Ganjeer briefed the students of his journey before becoming a successful entrepreneur. The challenges that a budding entrepreneur faces and how one can proceed to become a successful entrepreneur, all these points were covered by him through his life experiences. The chief guest of the function, Dr M. P. Thakur narrated the importance
of food production, checking of food loss, processing, food technology and v lue addition. He
stressed on the fact that we are gradually improving our cultivation strategies to become self- reliant on food production, however there is still huge potential for improvisation in this sector. He congratulated Dr. Dave for guiding the fresh technologists in the right direction and such events motivates the students in the right direction. The guests were then felicitated with a token of love and thanks. Vote of thanks was delivered by Dr. D. Mahapatra.
In succession, a quiz competition and essay writing based on food related general knowledge was organised for the students. Dr. Parv Nayak and Dr. Nikhil Tiwari conducted the quiz and essay competition. Information for Post Graduation and PhD education in the field of Food Technology with India and abroad was also given to the students.
